Dear Jim,
Yesterday I emailed Charlotte at the Grand County Public library, Andrea Grace at the Bike Fiend, and Julie at the YGP to write up a little something for me for stakeholder feedback. I have had multiple GCHS art shows with them and they have all had parent and community (stakeholder) feedback. So, when I get that information, I will add it to the web site.
Service to the district: I serve on the Negotiation Team, I have been a senior advisor on top of my sophomore advisory and have helped with the parade, supervised a dance, and supervised the Lagoon Trip. Also, I served on the graduation committee, helping plan, organize, practice, and finally helped students on graduation day. I am also taking minutes at staff meetings, negotiations, and leadership meetings. I am also on leadership and go to those meetings. I feel like the continual art shows I provide for GCHS students is a service to the district and community. We have participated in many art walks in to town.
Professional Development so far this school year has been attending a 2 day workshop with Betty Carr doing watercolors to help enrich my CTE classes. This was the best professional development I have ever attended. I learned new techniques and approaches to watercolor, better critique styles, and admired her teaching style, which was full of enthusiasm. I can implement all of these things in my classroom.
I have a paper copy of evaluation materials. To summarize student evaluations, I need to work on holding student attention during lessons and involve student discussion and opinion more in my teaching to the whole class. I will try and make my presentation of information more dynamic and entertaining, and try to involve student opinion more in my lessons. Students evaluation on strengths are that I give help, am caring, respect students, and they feel like they gain useful information in my class. In reflection of this feedback, I think my whole class presentations may be a little dry. I like to give the information I expect them to do directly and to the point so that we can get working. Production is the main element in the classes I teach. I do a lot of one on one teaching. My main task during class is walking around helping students in small groups or individually. I feel like this isn't addressed in the evaluation and may balance out the lack of entertainment in the whole class instruction. Regarding the second point necessary for improvement, the style that I was taught in during high school, college, graduate school, and then online classes didn't involve much student participation in classroom learning. We were taught to and then expected to take notes and do assignments. I feel like I have a lot to learn from the style of collaboration and involving student input in the teaching process.
My goal and growth plan for 2017-2018 school year has been photocopied and turned in to you. I also have a copy. I chose #3 Learning Environments. I am interested in learning more about collaboration studies and applying useful information into my classroom. I also chose #5 Assessment. I typically rely on finished product. I want to implement more consistent note taking into class. I also rely on watching students perform taught tasks I have taught, which isn't addressed often in assessment information I have found.

STAKEHOLDER LETTERS:
I would like to share with you the positive impact the Grand County High School Art exhibits has had on our library. When Catherine Moore first approached me about having a show, I felt like it would be a positive way to recognize students and therefore create a protective factor of social connections. I am pleased that in a number of cases that has been successful. Students were complimented by members of the community, library staff and other students, because their work was seen here at the library.
However there have been other factors that have made these art exhibitions mutually beneficial for the school as well as for the library and community. The rotating exhibits have increased the number of patrons that come looking for the new artwork, the classes that visit the library to see the work have an opportunity to see the resources the library has to offer. I know of two instances where students that had been missing material and were unable to use the library for years, were able to make arrangements and get their library privileges reinstated. Sometimes it is just easier to do hard things with a peer.
One of the most exciting things for us to see at the library is how well the students appreciate not only the art of their peers, but also the semi-annual art shows from the Utah Arts Council Traveling Art Show. Ms. Moore brings her students to the shows with worksheets and assignments that create a atmosphere of learning and instruction that is well received. The Utah Arts Council has been impressed with not only the quality of the work that the students have done, but also that Ms. Moore uses the exhibits in her curriculum.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Hurley
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing in order to provide feedback as part of Catherine Moore’s evaluation process with Grand County High School. Over the past two years, Catherine has led various hands-on projects with her students in the garden. Her students are able to take what they’ve learned in the classroom and put it to practice in a real-world setting. On top of her regular visits to the garden with classes, she collaborated with us to host a photo contest at a local Moab gallery and displayed student art at the MARC during a community Art Walk. Students were more invested in their art work knowing that it would be shown to the public. Providing these opportunities beyond the classroom empowers her students as artists and gives them a sneak peek into what the profession of an artist entails. She encouraged one of her students, Katherine Broderick, to submit a photo she captured at the Youth Garden Project in a state-wide contest and she received 1st place. It is evident that Catherine challenges her students to grow and is consistently thinking outside of the box utilizing community resources to make curriculum more applicable to her students.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with further questions!
Best,
Julie Zender

CTE Meeting with professional photographer Karissa Larsen 10-12-17
recommends 6 in 1 reflecto Wescot for portraits.
She goes to TX School of Photography Workshops. You have to sign up right away online. 100 teachers.
Suggests Diffuse box and stands. She thinks photographers should specialize. She only uses word of mouth advertising. She doesn't want unfriendly random clients. She feels this is working out for her and she plenty of work.
Recommends "Creative Live" online classes.
She is a self-taught photographer. She is trying to learn more about Photoshop and Lightroom. She is mostly doing class photos at the Charter School, weddings, and senior photos.

5 year plan CTE:
For Design and Visual Communications, Christa and I agree that individual desks would create a more productive work environment. Students get chatty and off task at the big desks. We feel like they would be more productive in individual seating.
In Photography, I would like to have studio lighting and some studio equipment. I have researched it over the years and there are a lot of do it yourself options. I just need to find the time and purchase things and make it happen. I think buying the lights and other equipment and materials will be $300 or under. I will make a more intentional effort to follow through with this. I think it is needed, especially now that Digital Photography II is being offered.
In the 5 year plan, new cameras need to be considered. The cameras we have are great and have lasted a long time. They have been used for Digital Photography and Video production. I think a budget of $1000 per year for digital cameras should be considered. This way we can buy 2 new cameras per year.
